David was, hands down, the very best and closest friend I've ever had, my whole life. He gave so much of the very best he had to give. He was kind, funny, thoughtful and very wise.
They say children are a reflection of their parents. David's children are a true testament to the kindness and goodness in his soul that he valued and lived out. They are a direct reflection of his ideology, immense character and integrity.
Looking at David, there is so very much to remember, hold onto and enjoy. There is so very much to be proud of in him and in his friendship. He left so much behind, ALL of it good, great and accomplished. We will always want one more story, one more hug, one more laugh, one more year, one more day, just one more…. but if I know David like I think I do, he left no unfinished business. In his great comforting way, he was always reassuring with: "Everything is exactly the way it's supposed to be at this exact moment.". I believed him, and still do.
He left us, but with so, so much to remember and hold on to!
He left us, with our hearts full of pride and love for him.
He left us, but he will always be close.
Dave was a really special man. He was always kind hearted and thoughtful. He was open-minded and a great listener. He could tell a story with the best of them. I know how much his family meant to him. He loved you guys and spoke of you often. I will never forget Dave and will always have fond memories of him. I've been lucky to have him for a friend.
Dave will always be a beautiful human to me and a comic genius. I have many fond memories on the Lizard Creek with Dave. Swimming in a water hole, campfires, picking “sandburs” out of my kids bare feet, but mostly laughing at his jokes. Makes me happy just thinking about those carefree days. R.I.P. “Uncle Sandbur”.
So sorry for your loss.
As a friend of Bill W I met Dave. He had so much wisdom to share to help new people. I know for me his honesty about his life helped me to get honest about mine and make some changes. He helped a lot of people and remained humble and didn’t want a pat on the back for it. He will be missed by many.
Every time I had a discussion with Dave I was better for it.
Dave knew my dad very well ( jim McFadden) They went hunting and fishing together and I hear stories about him and dave.

Papa and I ♥️
The day I met Dave has stayed in my mind forever. I was 13 and Dave was over at my friend’s house visits his sister. Dave came out to get in his car and saw us sitting in the yard. He walked over to say hello and went on to mesmerize us for two hours with one story after another. Later we worked together at Hy Vee. He couldn’t have been a nicer guy. My life has been made better by knowing him.

Dave had a wonderful personality and was loved by many people. He certainly will be missed.
Many, many, many good memories I will miss you my friend
Sending love to Tanner, and Kelly. I have so many fond memories of your dad. From the farm, to watching the newscast in Minneapolis looking for that one "lie" your mom convinced him was read nightly. Although, I think he caught on to that fairly quickly. With love, Pam Mehlin
