Dennis Leo Eckerman was born June 18, 1953 in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Saint Edmond High School in 1972. On June 8, 1985, Dennis was united in marriage to Dorothy Rolling and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Dennis was employed by the Fort Dodge Community School System as a custodian for 35 years. He worked for a period of time for Hy-Vee, following his retirement from the school system and went into full retirement in 2015. He was a devoted member of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church and took pride in volunteering in any capacity he could, as well as being a recess volunteer for Saint Edmond Elementary School. Denny genuinely loved just being around people and appreciated all the friendships he developed after his wife passed away. He will be remembered by all as a faithful, hard-working, and fun-loving man.

Yesterday we buried my brother, a gentle and loving family man that truly was my hero and always will be. Rest in Peace Brother.
Our heartfelt condolences to Eric and his sisters. Although we did not meet Dennis, he has been in our thoughts frequently. He was an extraordinary man, as evidenced by the fine children he and Dorothy raised. Peace be with the Eckerman family
I've known Denny since the 4th grade. Always kind, friendly and most of all humble. A great guy.
He'll be missed.
Denny had a heart of gold. I worked with him at Hillcrest School for several years. My sympathy to his family. He often talked about his kids...so proud! He cherished his wife.
I worked with Denny at Riverside Elementary for a number of years, and always appreciated his cooperation, sense of humor, and interaction with the students. He was very proud of his wife and children, and never hesitated telling about his children’s accomplishments! My husband was from Ringsted, and Dorothy’s family babysat my infant daughter during my mother-in-law’s funeral in 1983. My birthday was the day before Denny’s, so we’d often wish each other birthday greetings. I had a secret “chocolate stash” in my room he was privy to, and would often have a piece when he came there. Peace, love, and fond memories be with you as you celebrate his life here on Earth!
My deepest condolences to the Eckerman family. I had the pleasure to work with Denny at Hillcreast school for years. Denny truly had a heart of gold!! RIP Denny!!
My deepest sympathy to Denny's children, mother, and all of the Eckerman family. His cheerful smile and positive spirit will be deeply missed.
