David Patrick Cosgrove was born January 26, 1951 at the Sioux Valley Hospital in Cherokee to James Vincent and Rose Marie Cosgrove. At the age of three, the family moved to Fort Dodge where David then attended school. During his school years at St. Edmond Dave excelled in football, basketball, and baseball. Soon after his graduation in 1969, David was drafted into the United States Army. He was stationed in Guam where he received his Century Dog Military Training. He then finished out his remaining service at a Korean mission base. Upon his honorable discharge, David attended Iowa State University and then finished his degree at Mankato State University.
On July 7, 1977 David was united in marriage to Katie Astor and the couple established their home in Spencer. He worked for Spencer Foods and then later Sathers, which took him to Pennsylvania and California. While in California he accepted a position with the Millard Refrigerated Services which transferred him to Kansas for three years and then back to California. In California again he accepted a job with AmerciCold which transferred the couple back to Fort Dodge and most recently Dubuque, which Dave and Katie called home. David had a lifetime passion for walleye fishing, deer hunting, and pheasant hunting. He enjoyed that passion wherever they lived or traveled; David was always connected by being a member of Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever.
