Born on November 18, 1937, in Burnside, IA, Veronica's life was a rich tapestry of love, dedication, and service, woven with the threads of her unwavering faith and the joy she found in her family and work.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 3rd at 1:30 PM in the Chapel at the Marian Home. Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Duncombe. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 2nd from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home.
Veronica grew up in Duncombe, IA, where she graduated from high school. Her passion for beauty and care for others led her to attend beauty college, which paved the way for a lifelong career as a beloved beautician. She poured her heart into owning and operating various shops and salons in Fort Dodge, where her warm presence and skilled hands became a staple of the community.
On June 25, 1960, Veronica was united in marriage to James Averill at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Duncombe, IA. Together, they built a life filled with love and laughter, and were blessed with two children, Tim (Katie) and Amy (Scott), and grandchildren Megan, Emily, and Jimmy Averill, as well as Allison and Abigail Bailey. Veronica's family was the center of her world, and she dedicated herself to creating a home filled with warmth, care, and the sweet aroma of her excellent cooking and baking.
Veronica's sisters, Rita Griggs, Joan Iverson, and Teresa Vratny, and her brothers, Roger Ewing and Bruce Ewing, along with sister-in-law Toni (Averill) Roberts, will cherish the memories of their time together. Her life was also enriched by the love of many cousins, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Dorothy, her beloved spouse, James, her granddaughter Emily, her brother Lyle, and sister-in-law Joyce (Averill) Macek.
A woman of profound faith, Veronica was deeply involved in her church community. She served as an usher, relishing the post-service meals with her team of usher buddies. Her commitment to her faith extended to teaching CCD for years, being an active Catholic Daughter, and always being ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. Veronica's generosity knew no bounds; she was the embodiment of a loving, gentle, and thoughtful soul, always putting others before herself. Her sense of style was undeniable. Known as a "snazzy" dresser, she had a flair for showing up at church or events in something shiny, her wit and humor as sparkling as her outfits. Her grandchildren will fondly remember the simple little games and activities she created, which will be treasured memories for years to come.
Veronica's legacy is one of selflessness and tireless work. She was the pillar of strength for her family, caring for many with a generous and giving heart. Her home was a haven of hospitality, always ready to welcome guests with a hot cup of coffee or a refreshing glass of tea. Her culinary skills were unmatched, especially during Christmas when she would bake an array of candies and cookies.
Perhaps Veronica's greatest pride was her family. She loved her children and grandchildren immensely and took great pride in their accomplishments. Her perfectly painted fingernails, which received many compliments, were just a small reflection of the care and attention to detail she put into every aspect of her life.
Veronica M. Averill's life was a testament to the power of love, service, and faith. As we remember her, we are reminded of the impact one person can have on the lives of so many. Her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us, and her memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Veronica's presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy of love and kindness will endure.
