Sue Peterson, 74, of Farnhamville, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her home on June 24, 2025. She was born on February 27, 1951, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Don and Joyce Reynolds, and lived a life grounded in love, laughter, and family.
Sue graduated from Cedar Valley High School in 1969 and went on to attend college. She married Larry Jensen on December 15, 1977, in Council Bluffs, Iowa; they later divorced. On July 17, 1993, she married Jim Peterson in Farnhamville, where together they built a warm and welcoming home.
Sue began her professional career in the early 1970s at Mutual of Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska, where she worked until 1989. That year, she returned to her hometown of Farnhamville and joined Security Savings Bank, serving as secretary to the president until her retirement in 2016.
She is survived by her sons, Ben Jensen of Smithton, IL, and John Jensen of Omaha, NE; stepsons, Joshua (Tomoko) James of New York City and Stacy (Dara) Peterson of Ames; grandchildren, Jack Peterson, John Jensen, Lillian Jensen, Kai James, Ren James, Brittney Mattison, Brooke Cardona, Brenna Peterson; three great-grandchildren; sister, Dianne Kahl, brother, Dave (Linda) Reynolds, and sister, Julie (Phil) Schultz; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held at Laufersweiler Palmer & Sons Funeral Home, Gowrie, on Friday, June 27, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Memorial services will take place at First United Church, Farnhamville, on Saturday, June 28, at 10:30 a.m. Lay Speaker Glenn Rhoden of Paton will share words of remembrance. Burial will follow at Reading Township Cemetery, Farnhamville.
Sue will be remembered for her warmth, kindness, and quick wit. Her generous spirit and gentle humor touched the lives of all who knew her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of those she loved. Sue was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Jim.
Memorials may be left for the family's discretion.
