Steven Smith

Steven L. Smith, 82 of Adel and formerly Rockwell City passed away September 10, 2026 at his home.

A graveside service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City. Military rites will be provided by the AMVETS Post 41 and the United States Army Honor Guard. Laufersweiler's Palmer-Swank Funeral Home is serving the family.

Steven is survived by his children Jim (Yukiko) Smith and Karen (Jeff) Smith Neubert, granddaughter Kalyn Ohano and grandsons Nathan and Aiden Smith; great- grandchildren Colton Ohano, Taylor Ohano and Adrian Moore, siblings Terry Smith, Diane Suiter, Vickie (Ron) Filmer, Linda (Phil) Rastetter, Gary (Mary) Smith, numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Roy and Virginia (Hill) Smith and grandson Joshua L. Neubert.

Steven Levern Smith was born November 3, 1943 in Fort Dodge. His family moved to Rockwell City and he graduated from Rockwell City High School in 1962. After graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and later the Army where he was deployed to Vietnam until his honorable discharge in 1972 as a Chief Warrant Officer, Level 5. While in the military he earned his aviator license and upon his discharge he worked for the FFA in Wichita, KS as a commercial airline pilot as well as serving in the Army Reserves and Guard for 20 plus years. Upon his retirement, he drove school bus for the Van Meter and Adel school districts.
