Steven Arthur Quick

October 6, 1948 — February 4, 2026

Steven Arthur Quick, 77, of Polk City, Iowa, peacefully passed away, after his short battle with cancer, on February 4, 2026.

Steve was born on October 6, 1948, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Arthur G. Quick (Bud) and Evelyn Ilene (Telschaw) Quick. He spent his early years in Iowa before moving to Arizona, where he graduated from Glendale High School in Arizona. He continued his education at Iowa State University and graduated with a B.S. in Psychology.

On July 12, 1970, Steve married the love of his life, Lisbeth Porter, at St. John's Lutheran Church. They had their daughter, Erin, and later adopted their son, John. Together Steve and Liz built a wonderful life grounded in service and dedication to others along with numerous life adventures traveling, sailing, and RV'ing.

Steve was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1970, attaining the rank of Specialist Fourth Class (SP4). His service continued long after his honorable discharge. As part of his professional and volunteer work, Steve counseled fellow Vietnam veterans, helping them navigate the lasting impacts of war, and presented to numerous high school students at three different Iowa districts, sharing his experiences and emphasizing understanding, responsibility, and service.

Following his military service, Steve devote d his professional life to public service, working for the State of Iowa as a social worker and child abuse investigator, where he advocated for children and families with compassion and integrity.

Throughout his life, Steve lived in several communities, including Vincent, Iowa, Glendale, Arizona, Wilmington, North Carolina, and Trimble, Missouri before returning to Iowa, where he spent his later years in Polk City.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Evelyn Quick, and his brother, Michael Quick.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Lisbeth Quick; brother Gregory Quick (Donna); daughter Erin Grimes (Scott); son John Kim Sol Quick; and grandsons Evan, Nolan, Caden and Ian Grimes, along with extended family members and friends.

Steve will be remembered for his continued service to others, his advocacy for veterans and children, his great sense of humor, and the deep love he held for his family. He loved supporting and encouraging his grandkids in all of their sports and fine arts. He truly exemplified and modeled empathy in action to everyone who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Monday February 9, 2026, at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Colfax Township Cemetery near Vincent with Military Rites provided by US Army and VFW Post 1856. There will be a visitation from noon until the time of service on Monday.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
