Ames - Steven C. Moberg 76, formerly of Rockwell City, passed away Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the Hospice House in Ames after a long battle with kidney disease. Memorial Services will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 27, 2024 at the Spirit of Hope Church (formerly the United Methodist Church) in Rockwell City, with Pastor Denise Berns officiating. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. Sunday at the Church until service time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to Spirit of Hope Church, or the Israel Family Hospice House of Ames. Laufersweiler's Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City is serving the family.
Steven Craig Moberg was born on March 7, 1948, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He attended school in Rockwell City and graduated in 1967. After that, he attended Universal Trade School in Omaha. Following his education, he did carpentry work with his uncle until 1969 when he started farming with his father. Steve married Carol Fryar on August 8, 1971, at the United Methodist Church in Rockwell City. Jennifer and Cathy were born to this union. Steve and Carol farmed outside of Rockwell City until their retirement in 2011.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Beverly (Kirk) Moberg.
Steve is survived by his wife Carol of Ames; children, Jennifer (Andrew) Albinger of Ames, and Cathy (Shane) Voith of Rockwell City; grandchildren Conor Albinger of Cedar Rapids, Cael Albinger of Ames, Hunter Voith and Brodie Voith, both of Rockwell City; brother Robert (Diane) Moberg of The Villages, Florida; sister Joni Patterson of Ames; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Bonnie) Fryar of Mason City and Dean (Kandis) Fryar of Fort Dodge; and other numerous relatives and friends.
Steve started his love of coin collecting during his childhood. He grew into an avid coin collector. He was active in the Fort Dodge Coin Club and Clarion Coin Club. Steve and Carol enjoyed their trips to different gambling destinations, and he enjoyed his poker club groups in Rockwell City. After Steve retired from farming, he found a love for cooking and enjoyed having the whole family over frequently for a feast. In his last few days, all he could talk about was his favorite foods to prepare and eat.
