Steve O'Brien, 72, of Clarion, formerly of Fort Dodge, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at Mercy Care at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 6th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM with a Vigil Prayer Service at 7:00 PM all at Laufersweiler Funeral Home.
Survivors include his significant other Flordelina of Clarion, sons Christopher O’Brien of Denver, CO, Ryan (Jenna) O’Brien of Cincinnati, OH, Sean (Sophia) O’Brien of Urbandale, A.J. O’Brien of Des Moines, IA, grandchildren Owen, Joseph, and Callen O’Brien, stepchildren Elsed, Louela, Aiza and Vanessa, step grandchildren Kendrick, Katelynn, Chloue, Lexy, Levi, Ibert, Julian, Liam, Nathan, Joshua and Tiffany, sisters Paula (Patrick) Habermann of Huxley, Lisa Bernhardt of Murchison, TX, and his brother Tom (Martha) O’Brien of Fort Dodge.
He was preceded by his parents John and Connie (Stell) O’Brien.
Steven Douglas O’Brien was born on January 10, 1951, in Fort Dodge. He was raised and educated here and graduated from Fort Doge Senior High School, class of 1969. Steve then attended and graduated from Iowa Central Community College. He was a successful car salesman and worked for Morrisey Auto, Clement Auto, Tom Kelley Ford, and Greenfield Transport. Steve had most recently retired from O’Berg Freight where he worked in dispatching. In 2009, he met the love of his life Flordelina and the couple established their home in Clarion. When he spent time with his children, he was truly there for them. Steve loved watching drag racing and NASCAR. For years when he was younger, he raced his own 1955 Chevy drag car that he still owns today. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
