Samuel Johnson

April 2, 1944 — March 21, 2026

Samuel L. Johnson, 81, of Fort Dodge passed away Saturday March 21, 2026 at Friendship Haven.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Thursday, March 26, 2026 in the chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Corpus Christi Cemetery with military rites provided by the United States Army Honor Guard and the VFW Post 1856. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Survivors include his son Ned Johnson of Fort Dodge, daughter Erin Johnson of Des Moines, and grandson Cooper Samuel Johnson of Iowa City; brother, Ray Johnson and sister, Bette Eells; many nieces and nephews.

Samuel was born April 2, 1944 to Henry and Gertrude (Quigley) Johnson in Belmond, Iowa. He was raised and educated there. Sam then Attended St. John's University where he received his Bachelor's Degree in English. He then went on to serve his country in the US Army as a MEDIC. Sam worked in the life insurance industry for most of his career and was a member of Sertoma and the Elks.

Samuel was a talented artist particularly in portraiture. He was known for his dry wit, sharp sense of humor, and his storytelling. He loved golf and building clubs for friends and family.
