Robert J. Strain, 87, of Coalville passed away Tuesday, November 29, 2023, at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday December 7th at 1:00 PM Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery with Military Rites Conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM Laufersweiler Funeral Home.
Survivors include his daughter Lea Ann Strain of Fort Dodge, son Scott Strain and his wife Betsy of Nevada, IA, 2 grandchildren Jason Strain and Ricky Ellisworth, 3 step grandchildren Justin, Ethan, and Ella. Sisters Florence Strain of Fort Dodge, Barbara Main of Sedalia, MO, Paulette Monahan and her husband Paul of Fort Dodge, Frances Gochenour and her husband Ray of Otho.
He was preceded by his parents Fabian and Nellie (Meyers) Strain, wife Carol in 1997, sisters Mary Monahan and JoAnne Monarch.
Robert Joseph Strain was born on November 8, 1936, in Fort Dodge. He attended schools here. Bob worked for Clayworks brickyard and then at Georgia Pacific. In 1959, he was drafted by the U.S. Army serving overseas in Germany and received his honorable discharge in 1965 after 4 years in the reserves. He returned to Fort Dodge. On December 1, 1962, he was united in marriage to Carol Milliken and the couple made their home in Coalville. Bob went to work back at Georgia Pacific retiring after 44 years in 2001. He enjoyed Westerns, especially John Wayne, playing lottery scratchers, and polka music. Bob loved to go to the Stock Car Races in Webster City. Bob was blessed to take part of the Brushy Creek Honor Flight which was something he cherished.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
