Robert Joseph Brungardt

Robert J. Brungardt, 74, of Fort Dodge, passed away, Tuesday July 9, 2024, at Journeys Memory Care, Friendship Haven from complications of Parkinson’s disease.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. There will be a visitation from 9:30 AM until the time of services at the church on Thursday. A celebration of life and luncheon will follow the services in the Celebration Center at Friendship Haven. A private family burial will take place at Corpus Christi Cemetery.


Robert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Linda; children Mindy (Tom) Derrig of Fort Dodge and Brent (Beth) Brungardt of Ames; grandchildren, Brandon (Stacy) Derrig, Morgan (Andy) Midtling, Emma Brungardt, Preston Derrig, Elijah Brungardt, Quentin Derrig, Hayden Derrig, and Irelyn Derrig; great-grandchildren Maddie Midtling and Grayson Midtling; brother, Bill (Ann) Brungardt of Waukee.


Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Susan (Behrendt) Brungardt, and sister Sandi Truelson.


Robert Joseph Brungardt was born on September 7, 1949, in Omaha, Nebraska. Bob was raised and educated in the Omaha area, until the summer of 1966 when the family moved to Fort Dodge. He finished his schooling in Fort Dodge, graduating from St. Edmond High School. Soon after high school, Robert enlisted in the National Guard and served for 6 years. He was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Linda Schreier at Corpus Christi Church. The couple established their home in Duncombe, where they lived for the next 30 years. In 2005 the couple moved back to Fort Dodge. Bob was a lifelong truck driver for Nissen’s Fun Time Franks, Tasler Pallet, Van Diest Supply Company, and Praxair. His favorite saying was “You should see the view from my office”.


Bob enjoyed riding motorcycles and taking trips in their convertible. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately called him, “Big Poom”. While residing at Friendship Haven, the highlight of his week was Rock Steady Boxing with his girls and the boxing team.


In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Good Samaritan Fund at Friendship Haven or St. Edmond School.
