Rickey Lee Netz, 72, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2025, in his birthplace of Portales, New Mexico, surrounded by his loving family.
Rickey grew up in Knierim, Iowa, graduated from Manson High School, and was confirmed in the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Although he spent many of his later years in Nebraska, Rickey’s heart always remained loyal to the Iowa Hawkeyes. Known for his infectious laugh, warm smile, and gift for storytelling, Rickey left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He cherished the outdoors—whether hunting, fishing, or simply enjoying nature—but his greatest joy was always his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Rickey lived a life full of love, laughter, and a little mischief. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends near and far.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Clara Frances (Taylor) Netz, and his youngest sister, Ren LaNell (Netz) Habhab.
Rickey is survived by his children: Ryan (Katherine) Netz, Candice (Brandon) Everidge, and Bobbyrose (Michael) Widman. His grandchildren—Emma, Ellie, Henry, Hannah, and Charlie—were the light of his life.
Rickey is also survived by his devoted life partner, Merry Brunson, along with grown children Mike, Sarah, and grandson Tyler.
Ric’s surviving siblings are Roderic (MaryAnn) Netz, Robin (Alex) George, and Roger (Shari) Netz, along with his brother-in-law, Allen Habhab. He is also remembered with love by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Rickey’s laughter, passion for life, and devotion to family will live on in the hearts of all who loved him.
A memorial service to celebrate Rickey’s life will be held on October 25, 2025, in Knierim, Iowa.
