Richard E. Bredehoft, 81, of Fort Dodge passed away Monday, January 5, 2026 at Fort Dodge Health and Rehabilitation.
Private family services will be held at a later date. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family.
Richard is survived by his sisters Liz Askeland of Fort Dodge and Eda (Ray) Butterworth of Lincoln, England. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces Dr. Ryan (Lacey) Askeland and their children Elena and Lila, Dr. Eric (Stefanie) Askeland and their children Nora, Nadia, and Nina, and Eliza Butterworth (Michael) and their daughter Lola.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ervin and Dolores (Casady) Bredehoft and brother-in-law Rod Askeland.
Richard was born August 22, 1944, in Fort Dodge. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School in 1963. He then attended Iowa Central College before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He served in Korea and was stationed in New Mexico before his honorable discharge in 1973. For 33 years, Richard worked for Nestlé Purina, retiring in 2009.
Richard loved music and attending concerts. He was an avid reader and coin collector. He traveled throughout the Caribbean, Mexico, and Europe and in 2018 was a participant on the Brushy Creek Area Honor Flight. He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish.
