It is with great sadness that the family of Patricia Prince announce her passing on October 7, 2026, at the age of 85 after a lengthy battle with dementia at the Barrington Care facility in Carmel, Indiana. She was surrounded by family in her final moments of life.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 AM Saturday, October 17, 2026 at Rosehill Cemetery in Rockwell City.
Pat was born in Maine in 1941 to Stanley and Mary Lucien. She met a young Calhoun County farm boy named Gale Prince at the 17/20 Café in Rockwell City in 1959 and she later became a Princess with marriage 62 years ago.
Pat grew up in a small town in rural Maine with a love for animals. She was accepted into nurses training at the Peter Bent Brighman School of Nursing (affiliate of Harvard Medical School) in Boston. While a student, she was the benefactor of a medical procedure from a doctor at the hospital, who became a recipient of the Nobel Prize for Medicine for his scientific work with human tissue compatibility for enhancing human life with transplants. His generosity, set an example for Pat in her career by paying-it-forward with her loving care as a nurse for life. Even during her years in memory care at the Barrington, you could see her reaching out to others in extending her loving care.
She graduated in 1963 from Peter Bent Brigham School of Nursing in Boston, MA and after marriage they established their first home in Ames, Iowa while Gale completed his degree work at Iowa State University graduating in 1967. During their time in Ames Pat worked as a nurse at the McFarland Clinic. She received a PHT (putting hubby through) certificate from Iowa State University. They then moved to Champaign, IL where she worked in a hospital. Twelve years later they moved to Cincinnati, OH where she provided that special loving care to hundreds of people as a Hospice Nurse in Cincinnati, OH prior to retiring in 2003.
She was an artist in capturing family history through creating memories in scrapbooks with the production of over 70 family photo albums. She leaves this world with a hand full of pictures as she works on her final scrapbook in Heaven.
She is survived by her husband Gale; sons Douglas (Anne), Victor (Tina), Jeffrey (Valerie), and daughter Michelle (Jeroen) and six grandchildren and two great grandchildren; and her sister Marolyn and brother Stan. Over the years she also served as a mom to foreign exchange students Alex, Michelle and Ben, and to Bob, an orphan, during his high school years.
During her final hours of life she announced the final flight, including the seat numbers, for her return to Rockwell City, where it began, for her burial.
If you wish, consider a memorial donation in her name to the Alzheimer's association at alz.org to help science find a cure for this disease.
