Meryllis Joyce (Carraway) Demitroff, 96, formerly of Lehigh passed away with family at her side, on September 10, 2025 in Nixa, Missouri.
Services will be held at11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 20th at United Methodist Church, Lehigh with Rev. Philip Berger officiating. A visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery, Lehigh. Laufersweiler Funeral Home, Fort Dodge is serving the family.
Meryliis was born November 11, 1928 in Washington, North Carolina. She was raised and educated in North Carolina. Following her education, Meryllis worked as a waitress at the Cherry Point Naval Base. There, she met the love of her life, a young Iowan Marine, Bud Demitroff. The couple were married in North Carolina on March 30, 1945. After Bud's discharge Meryliis and Bud made Lehigh their home.
Meryllis worked for many years at Globe Union in Fort Dodge, and was even an officer in the union there. She retired in 1986. Throughout her life, Meryllis was a true people person. She enjoyed being social in her church and community. She was known as a "good sport", constantly putting up with Bud's jokester ways. She loved following her grandkids sporting events, bowling, traveling, and listening to music. Meryllis was an unwavering caregiver to her family. She had a sharp mind and quick wit but was the quiet and unassuming, absolute heart of the family.
Meryllis is survived by her three daughters; Linda Gallentine of Nixa, MO, Darlene Isaacson and her husband Darwin of LaCrosse, WI, and Cindy Stull and her husband Gordy of Randall, IA. Meryllis was loved by her grandchildren; Scott (Kerry) Gallentine, Jeff (Amy) Gallentine, Matt (Katy) Isaacson, Meghan (Joe) Foster, David Isaacson, and Casey Stull. She is also survived by great-grandchildren.
Meryllis was preceded in death by her husband, Theodore "Bud" Demitroff; her infant son Pete; her mother, Hattie Carraway and step-father, James Evans; and brother Pete Carraway.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left to the United Methodist Church, Lehigh.
