Marvin D. Ekstrom, 93, of Duncombe, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, at Van Diest Medical Center in Webster City. Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 16th at 11:00 AM at Holy Trinity Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will take place at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Duncombe with military rites conducted by the V.F.W. Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be on Sunday from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Survivors include his daughters Lisa (Jim) Clabaugh of Duncombe, IA, Linda (Glenn) Osborne of Grand River, IA, Diane Barkhaus of Walker, MN, son Dean (LuAnn) Ekstrom of Fort Dodge, 12 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren, special friend Lauraine Crouse of Fort Dodge. He was preceded in death by his wife Joy in 2002, parents Carl and Myrtle (Culver) Ekstrom, sister Wilma Moenck, infant great grandson Edwin Clabaugh. Marvin D. Ekstrom was born on May 26, 1929, in Evanston. He graduated from Duncombe High School in 1946. On June 11, 1953, Marvin was united in marriage to Joy Wickman and the couple established their home on a farm in the Duncombe area. From 1954 to 1956, he served in the U.S. Army and then an additional 6 years in the reserves. He was member of Holy Trinity Parish. Marvin farmed all his life and very much loved the time spent with his children and grandchildren. For many years his lifelong friend Lauraine Crouse was his constant companion and friend. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
