Margaret Ellen Berner

Margaret Berner, 85, passed away Friday, July 31, 2026 at the Good Samaritan Society, Manson.

Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Friday August 7, 2026 at the Spirit of Hope Church, Rockwell City. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. A visitation will be 4:30 to 6:30 PM Thursday at Laufersweiler's Palmer-Swank Funeral Home.

Margaret is survived by her children, Debbie (Chris) Judas, David Berner, Marsha Berner, and Mike (Kandi) Berner; grandchildren, Shannon (Justin) Grossnickle, Brandon (Marietta) Judas, and Tucker Berner; great-grandchildren, Max and Corbin Grossnickle; nieces, nephews and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Berner; parents, Alvin and Mary (Carver) Anderson; and sister Ruth Ann Dischler.

Margaret Ellen Anderson was born May 31, 1941 at home in Lohrville. She graduated from Rockwell City High School with the class of 1959. On April 9, 1961, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Melvin Berner. Margaret worked at the Iowa State University Extension Office for two years before staying home to be a farm wife and mother. She also worked as a CMA at Sunny Knoll and was a direct caregiver and cook at Opportunity Living. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where she served on numerous committees and church circles. She also taught Sunday school. Margaret was active in her community, belonging to the neighborhood card club, snowmobile club, the "old car" club and the GGG club. She enjoyed playing the piano, sewing, crocheting and growing beautiful annual flowers. She spent time in her garden and attended children and grandchildren's activities.
