Louis J. Leuenberger, 93, of Fort Dodge passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Friendship Haven.
Louis J. Leuenberger was born July 27, 1930, in Chickasaw County, Iowa, the son of Frank and Anna (Kacher) Leuenberger. He graduated from New Hampton High School in 1948 and attended Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa. He enjoyed business, sports, and flying. He received his private pilot license in 1949.
Lou met his wife Glenna Peters in high school. They married on July 30, 1955, in New Hampton, Iowa. They have 3 daughters - Sue, Jill, and Sara. They moved to Fort Dodge, Iowa in 1968 where Lou established a 50-year career with Investors Diversified Services – Amerprise Financial Services.
Lou was very active in the Fort Dodge community and was a member of the Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Elks Club, Chamber of Commerce, and Fort Dodge Country Club. He was an avid golfer and made a hole-in-one at Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, OH. He loved good humor, quick wit, playing cards, watching sports, and fishing in Canada. In his retirement, as much as he loved Iowa, he enjoyed spending winters in Arizona.
Survivors include his wife Glenna Leuenberger of Fort Dodge, IA, daughters Sue (Robert) Kalseim of East Battle Lake, MN, Jill (Alan) Gargano of Phoenix, AZ, Sara (Dean) Porter of West Chester, OH; grandsons Ben (Melissa) Gargano of Goodyear, AZ, and Jon (Mary) Gargano of Omaha, NE; four great-grandchildren - Wyatt, Wesley, Ellie, and Abby Gargano; and many nieces and nephews.
Lou was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers: Henry, Eugene, Benjamin, Clarence, and Leo, and four sisters: Tillie Novotny, Lillian Leuenberger, Irene Shores, and Darlene Mracek.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 AM Saturday, July 27, 2024, at Holy Trinity Church. The family will be available for visiting at 10:00 AM at the church. A private entombment will be at North Lawn Cemetery.
