Linda Louise (Christensen) Poppinga, 77, of Fort Dodge, Iowa, passed away on August 2nd at her home surrounded by family and her dogs.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Friday at Grace Lutheran Church. A visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow the service in Indian Mound Cemetery, Humboldt.
Born on December 14, 1947, in Fort Dodge to Robert Holden and Virginia Lee (Larson) Christensen, Linda grew up in Humboldt, Iowa and graduated from Humboldt High School. She married Rodney Poppinga at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Humboldt on October 8th, 1966.
Linda dedicated much of her professional life to serving others through various positions. She worked as a librarian at the Dayton Library, then worked at North Central Mental Health Clinic and KWMT/KKEZ radio station as a receptionist. Later in life, she brought warmth and dedication to her work at Party Productions and Younkers in Fort Dodge until her retirement.
A devoted member of Grace Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge, Linda actively participated in numerous ministry teams and served on the Church Council.
Linda shared 32 years with her husband Rod in the Dayton area before they moved to Fort Dodge in 1998.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband Rod; their children Chris (Raquel) of Houston, Texas; Ryan (Andrea) of Guthrie, Oklahoma; and Melissa (Dan) Hansen of Altoona, Iowa. Linda was a proud grandmother to Ashley, Austin, Adam, Grant, and Gunnar Poppinga; and Holden and Henryk Hansen; great-grandchildren, Gianna and Royce Poppinga.
She is also survived by her brother, Robert Christensen of Johnston, Iowa; sisters-in-law Vonnie Bangasser of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Elaine Poppinga of Charles City, Iowa; brother-in-law Gus Henrichs of Winterset, Iowa; nieces Melanie Andersen, Greta Short, Sue Carlson, Deanne Steffens, Lisa Hellevang, and Jennifer Mattes; nephews Troy Christensen and Mike Bangasser.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents Robert and Virginia Christensen; father-and mother-in-law Louie and Marie Poppinga; sisters-in-law Erlene Henrichs, Maryan Shipley and Phyllis Christensen; brother-in-law Paul Bangasser; and nephew Daniel Bangasser.
Linda found great joy in spending time with her grandchildren and caring for the many dogs who were part of her life over the years.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
