Kenneth A. Thompson, 65, of Moorland, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2026 at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday, July 25th at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Moorland. PLEASE NOTE THE DATE Inurnment will follow at Our Lady of Good Counsel Cemetery, Moorland. The visitation will be on Friday July 24th from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home.

Ken is survived by his son Aaron Thompson of Cedar Rapids and daughter Sarah List and her husband Duncan of Keystone, beloved grandchildren Emily, Caleb, and Abel. He is also survived by his brothers Larry (Diana) Thompson of Humboldt, Ron (Lora) Thompson of Fort Dodge, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gene and Rosemary (Sullivan) Thompson, nephew Jacob Thompson, and many other beloved family members.

Kenneth Allan Thompson was born October 14, 1960. He was raised in Moorland and attended Prairie Community Schools. Ken attended Iowa Central Community College for mechanics. He was united in marriage to Elizabeth Hilgendorf and the couple made Moorland their home. To this union there were 2 children born, Aaron and Sarah. They later divorced. Ken worked as an auto mechanic for many years before working for the state. After working for the state for 28 years, Ken retired in 2025. For 30 years he served on the Moorland Fire Department with 25 years as the acting Fire Chief. He loved mowing his lawn and found yard work to be one of his favorite hobbies. The most important thing in life was his family.

Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
