Karen Kay Schoon (Maschino) of Knierim, Iowa passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, from bladder cancer. Karen was born in Lake City, Iowa to Mabel and Stanley Maschino on June 30, 1940. She attended Colfax #7 Country School until 5th grade and then Pomeroy schools until her junior year. Karen graduated from Richmond High School in Minneapolis, MN. She married her high school sweetheart, Gene, on January 11, 1959. Gene and Karen lived in Fort Dodge and Lehigh before settling on their farm North of Knierim in 1974. She was predeceased in death by her mother, Mabel Engh Otto Blesi, her father Stanley Bruce Maschino, infant twin sisters Marjorie Mae and Marilyn Fae, sister Donna Ferrand of Minneapolis and a daughter, Teresa Maria (Schoon) Hunt. Survivors include her husband Gene of Knierim, daughter Liz Meyer (Brian) of Pomeroy, son Matt Schoon (Darlene) of Manhattan, Montana and daughter Michelle McCarville (Dennis) of Ames. Grandchildren of Karen and Gene, Ashley (Meyer) Schnieders (Ted), Ben Meyer (Liz), Jadon Schoon, Mason McCarville (Katie), Aaron McCarville (Kristen), and Katie McCarville along with seven great-grandchildren. As per Karen's request, no funeral or memorial service will be held. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family.
