Kam D. Schmehr, 57, of Fort Dodge passed away Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at his home. A Celebration of Kam's life will be held on Wednesday, March 29th at 10:30 AM in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home. Survivors include his wife Deborah of Fort Dodge, son Jake (Codie) Schmehr of Fort Dodge, stepson Ra'ed (Samantha) Abdel-Hadi, stepdaughter Leila (Brandon) Abdel-Hadi, grandchildren Finley, Kace, Serayah, and Alethea, siblings Dennis Granahan, Kenny and Kim Granahan, Matt and Toni Granahan, Paul and Raylene Granahan, and Jim and Michelle Granahan, brother-in-law Bill Pritchard, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins, his dogs "Hondo" and "Dub". He was preceded in death by his parents Gary and Patty (Long) Schmehr, his daughter Jessica Schmehr, sister Kim Pritchard, stepdad J.P. Granahan, and stepsister Teresa Schneider. Kam D. Schmehr was born on October 24, 1965, at the Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge. He was raised and educated around the Gowrie area, graduating from Prairie Valley High School in 1984. He then served in the U.S Air Force until his medical discharge. On March 17, 1989, he was united in marriage to Vicki Chase, and the couple established their home in Gowrie. To this union 2 children were born Jessica and Jake. The couple would later divorce. Kam worked at Martin Marietta, the Per Mar Security (Beeper People), and later as an electrician at CertainTeed where he retired from in 2014 due to Rheumatoid Arthritis, which he battled and fought courageously his adult life. In 2010, he was united in marriage to Lisa Allen and the couple were later divorced. Kam was a longtime friend of Dr. Bob and Bill W. There was nothing he could not fix or get working. He loved racing 4-wheelers with his son Jake, working on cars, collecting antique cars, and going to car shows. On December 6, 2013, he was united in marriage to Deborah (Ewing) Abdel-Hadi at Northfield Church of Christ and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. Kam loved time spent his friends and family. In his retirement he stayed busy helping people and was also employed at Laufersweiler Funeral Home for several years. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
