Joyce Weiss

Joyce Marie (Bailey) Weiss, 87, passed away peacefully at her home in Rockwell City Thursday, December 11, 2025.

Joyce was born at home in Calhoun County township to Glenn and Elizabeth (Heath) Bailey on January 17, 1938; joining her big brother, LeRoy. She attended country school through 8th grade and high school in Rockwell City; graduating with the class of 1956. Joyce went on to attend the Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines from 1956-1959.

Joyce married her high school sweetheart Ronald Weiss on September 5, 1959. She worked as a private nurse until starting her family. After the birth of her children Sherri and John, Joyce stayed home to work alongside her husband to farm and raise livestock.

Joyce enjoyed gardening, reading, occasional sewing, and going on rides in their Trans Am. Her family was the pride and joy of her life. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always staying updated on what her family was doing and relishing in visits from her 13 great-grandchildren.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Ronald of Rockwell City; daughter, Sherri (Jeff) Ellis of Jolley; son, John Weiss (Denise Sittig) of Carroll; 6 grandchildren, Vanessa Solko, Felicia Ellis, Catrina (Adam) Casey, Alan (Liz) Weiss, Justina (Zac) Higgins, and Matt (Alicia) Weiss; 13 great-grandchildren, Bailey, Avery , and Graham Solko; River, Clayton, and Mack Casey; Carlie, Audrie, Emmett, Joseph, and Isaiah Weiss; Wilder Higgins; and Lincoln Weiss. She is also survived by her brother, LeRoy Bailey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Elizabeth Bailey and sister-in-law, Elnora Bailey.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, December 15, 2025 at The Spirit of Hope Church, Rockwell City. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery, Rockwell City. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church. Laufersweiler's Palmer-Swank Funeral home is serving the family.
