John "Jack" Cronin, 80 of Callendar, passed away Thursday, March 5, 2026, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 21, 2026, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, Moorland. A visitation will be 2 hours prior starting at 9:00 a.m. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Boone. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family.
John Peter was born March 15, 1945, in Callendar at the family home. Jack was raised in Callender and attended Callender grade schools. He graduated from Saint Edmond High School in 1963. Jack worked for Ma Bell Telephone Company for over 30 years, traveling the world installing phone lines. In his pastime, Jack enjoyed visiting with his family and friends, reading, watching westerns and sports, especially football. He was a member of Holy Trinity Church and Knights of Columbus.
Jack is survived by 18 nieces and nephews, Ray, Mike, Joe, Marianne, Kathleen, Dave, Diane, Bob, Deb, Carolyn, Bill, Laura, Joan, Colleen, Julie, Janice, Dennis, Karen, 49 grand-nieces & nephews, 45 great-grand nieces & nephews, sister-in-law Peg Cronin of Des Moines, and his Callendar family, Brandon, Karen, Ryan, Lucas and Tyler Jondle.
He was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Marie (Conway) Cronin, siblings, Joe Cronin & Jim Cronin, Rose Marie Sylvester, and Marcella Shovlain. His nieces Cathy Faulkner and Mary Smith, his grand nephews, Braddock Shovlain, Billy Cronin, and Steven Shovlain.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to a charity of your choice in Jack's memory.
