Joanna L. Ewing, 86, passed away peacefully at her home on July 20, 2026.
Joanna was born on March 24, 1940, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Joe and Louise Kolacia. She was the oldest of six children and shared a lifelong bond with her siblings.
She graduated from St. Edmond High School in 1957 before continuing her education at Iowa Central Community College and Buena Vista University. Joanna was united in marriage to Michael Yetmar on August 16, 1958, and together they welcomed six children. Though their marriage later ended, family always remained at the center of Joanna's life. She later married Lyle Ewing in October 1996, and they shared many happy years together.
Joanna devoted many years to raising her family before beginning a career in real estate. She worked for Johnson Realty and Coldwell Banker before proudly operating her own brokerage for several years. She enjoyed meeting people and helping families find a place to call home.
Joanna found joy in life's simple pleasures. She looked forward to gathering with her many coffee clubs throughout the week, sharing stories, laughter, and friendship over a cup of coffee. She also cherished weekly lunches with her sisters. Her Catholic faith remained an important part of her life.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Louise Kolacia; her husband, Lyle Ewing; her son, Jerry Yetmar; her daughter, Julie Yetmar; and her grandson, Matt Yetmar.
Joanna is lovingly survived by her children, Mike (Mary) Yetmar, Jolynn Yetmar, Tom Yetmar, and Kathy Mayer; her siblings, Vince (Rosemary) Kolacia, John (Sharon) Kolacia, Steve (Connie) Kolacia, Mary Lynn (Bob) Biggins, and Kristi (Gary Lathum) Tripp; along with many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family members, and dear friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Holy Trinity Church. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the church. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family.
