Jim R. Bockoven, 85, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2023. A Celebration of Jim's Life will be held on Saturday March 25th from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Corpus Christi Parish Center. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family. Survivors include his wife of 57 years Betty of Fort Dodge, sons Harris Bockoven of Otho, T.J. (Lisa) Bockoven of Fort Dodge, grandchildren James (Amber), Grant (Tina), K.C., Morgan, Parker, and Tripp Bockoven, great grandson Alessio Bockoven, brother Keith (Erma) Bockoven of Stanhope, Betty (Gene) Summers of TX, Beverly Essing of Humboldt. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Ruby (Hendrickson) Bockoven, brothers Bruce, Don, Jeff, and Roger Bockoven, brother-in-law Lowell Essing. James Raymond Bockoven was born on January 19, 1938, in Fort Dodge. He was raised and educated here and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High School. On May 7, 1965, he was united in marriage to Betty Vicini and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. Jim owned various businesses throughout his life including small appliance repair and his company Coin Operated Machines. The couple later owned and operated the Nifty Fifty Restaurant in Lehigh and the Lehigh Grocery Store. They also owned and operated the laundromat and car wash in Otho. Jim was known for his unique sense of humor. He was always working hard to provide for his family. Jim enjoyed watching westerns, Wheel of Fortune, and listening to Johnny Cash. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
