Rockwell City – Jean M. Peck 95, passed away Sunday, February 25, 2024 at
Sunny Knoll Care Centre. Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 1,
2024 at St. Paul’s Lutheran & Presbyterian Church, Rockwell City, with Pastor
Denise Berns officiating. Burial will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery near Auburn.
Visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 29, at Laufersweiler’s Palmer &
Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City. Memorials may be left to the discretion of
the family.
Jean is survived by her daughter Gayle Jones of Rockwell City; son Robert
(Helene) Peck of Davenport; 3 grandchildren, Crystal Jones, Katie Peck, and Amy
Peck; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents,
Clarence V. and Mildred M. (Leatherberry) Dreeszen; and brother James Dreeszen.
Jean Margaret Dreeszen was born June 20, 1928 at Lake City, Iowa. Jean was
raised in Auburn, Iowa where she graduated from Auburn High School, with the
Class of 1946. Jean continued her education and received her teaching certificate
from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. Jean taught school at Jewell and
Rockwell City. On August 3, 1952 she was united in marriage to William Peck
and the couple established their home in Rockwell City. They divorced in 1974.
Jean was a assistant teacher at Happy Face Preschool from 1973 to 1979 and then a
preschool teacher from 1979 to 1990. Jean continued working at Sunnyview
Independent Living until her retirement. She was an active member of St. Paul’s
Lutheran and Presbyterian Church, and had taught Sunday School and Children’s
Sermons.
