Rockwell City - Jean E. Collins 88, passed away Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at her home. A Memorial Mass will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, September 23, 2025 at St. Francis Catholic Church, Rockwell City, with Fr. Ross Caniglia officiating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial of ashes will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Lake City at 2:00 PM Tuesday September 23, 2025. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.

Jean is survived by her sons, Joe Collins and Paul Collins (Tawn) of Rockwell City; daughters, Shelly (Mike) Jones of Missouri Valley and Heather Collins of Rockwell City; six grandchildren, Elizabeth (Zayne), Christopher (Halle), Heather (Brett), Dylan, Cali and Collin; four great-grandchildren, William, Oliver, Rylee, and Jack; her siblings, MaryLou Collins of Rockwell City and Joanne Schlorholtz of Florida; sisters-in-law Alice Harmeyer of Goldfield and Elly Harmeyer of Clear Lake; and other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her son John Collins; parents, Joe and Francis (Otto) Harmeyer; brothers Lloyd and Ronnie Harmeyer; and brothers-in-law, Larry Collins and Stan Schlorholtz.

Jean Elizabeth Harmeyer was born March 15, 1937 in Carroll, Iowa. She graduated from Lake City High School, with the Class of 1955. Following her education, Jean worked at McVay Hospital in Lake City. In 1957, she was united in marriage to John William Collins, Sr. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Lake City. The couple made their home in Lovelock, Nevada for four years before returning to Iowa in 1961 and making their home in Rockwell City. Jean was a homemaker and raised her children until becoming employed at the Women's Reformatory in 1975. Jean retired from the North Central Correctional Facility in 2000. She then worked as office manager for Dr. Kalkwarf's Dental Office for 15 years. Jean enjoyed traveling with her best friends. She was a proud mom, grandma, and great grandma. She loved to have family gatherings with all their favorite foods, especially her pie. She enjoyed planting flowers in the spring and vegetables in her garden.
