Gary John McIntyre was born August 1, 1941 in Rockwell City. He graduated from Rockwell City High School with the Class of 1959. He then obtained a Business Degree from Buena Vista University. Gary worked at Boeing in Seattle for a short time until he came home to Rockwell City to join the family business, McIntyre Furniture. In 1968, Gary was united in marriage to Kae Walters. The couple had two daughters, Michelle (Boo-Boo) and Stephanie (Fi-Fi). In 1977, Kae passed away in a car accident when the girls were only 4 and 2. Gary was a devoted father who loved wholeheartedly and unconditionally. Through the ups and downs of his life, Gary found a way to make the most of his 83 years. He was at his happiest traveling the world and going to football games and concerts, even hitchhiking to some back in the day. Gary had that mischievous smile and a spark in his eyes that may have gotten him into trouble a few times. He passed down his love of music, sunsets, dive bars, and specifically Twin Lakes, Iowa to his kids and their families. Gary retired in 1998, having worked over 30 years at McIntyre Furniture. He married Gloria McIntyre in 2000. They were ridiculously loyal Hawkeye fans following the team to most of the Big 10 football stadiums over the years.
Memorials may be left in Gary's memory to the South Central Calhoun Community Schools at 1000 Tonawanda Street, Rockwell City, Iowa 50579. These funds will be directed towards programs and student needs.
