Frances Kay (Malaise) Shroyer, daughter of Emil and Ruth (Coulson) Malaise, was born June 8, 1940. She was one of 12 children and was raised on a farm near Woolstock, Iowa, where she attended school.
Fran married the love of her life, Phil Shroyer, on May 23, 1970, after being introduced on a blind date just 11 months earlier. Together they built a life centered on family, friendship and devotion to one another.
Fran worked for many years as a seamstress at Hawkeye Glove in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Following retirement, Fran and Phil moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas, where they enjoyed many wonderful years together.
Fran was diagnosed with dementia in 2015. Phil lovingly cared for her for many years, remaining steadfastly by her side throughout her illness. In 2025, Fran and Phil moved to Minnesota to be closer to family.
Fran was immensely proud of her granddaughters and loved hearing about their lives and accomplishments. She will be remembered for her generosity and the determination that stayed with her throughout her life. She leaves behind a family who loved her deeply and countless memories that will continue to be shared for generations.
Fran passed away on August 31, 2026. A celebration of life will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 14, 2026 at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. A time for visiting will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home until the service begins.
Fran is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Phil; daughter, Jennifer (William) Kraus; granddaughters, Sophia (Spencer) Baldwin and Hannah (Marcus) Taylor Loyd; step-grandchildren, Adriane Lyon and Conrad Kraus; sisters, Annalea Hassebrock, Rosemary Arnold, Pauline Collins, Ellen Joyce Harvey and Darlene Friesleben; brother, Kenny Malaise (Pat); as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emil and Ruth Malaise; brothers, Richard Malaise, Clifford Malaise and Thomas Malaise; sisters, Shirley (Donald) Marker and Marlene Leeper (Roy); brothers-in-law, Roger Harvey, Harvey Friesleben, Kendell Hassebrock, Glen Arnold and LeRoy Collins; and sisters-in-law, Beverly Malaise, Ardy Malaise and Sandy Malaise.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the Reflections Memory Care team at Brightondale and the staff of Grace Hospice for the kindness, dignity and compassionate care they provided Fran and her family.
