Florence Mae Brown, 76, affectionately known as "Floncy" and "Blackie", passed away peacefully on November 15, 2023, at Unity Point Hospital in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Born on March 28, 1947, in Electric Mills, Mississippi, Florence was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend to many.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 25th at 11:00 am at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at Laufersweiler Funeral Home.
Florence attended Spencer High School in Scooba, Mississippi, and spent her professional life serving others. Upon moving to Fort Dodge in 1968, she worked at Trinity Regional Hospital, Towers Motel, and Friendship Haven. Florence married Hal Brown and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. She retired from Globe Union Manufacturing, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and hard work. Floncy was a woman of many interests. Blackie had a green thumb and found great joy in gardening. She was a wonderful cook, famous for her collard greens and ham hock, cornbread dressing, and homemade cakes. Floncy enjoyed lunching with friends, but above all, Florence cherished the time spent with her family. Her love for her family was evident in every aspect of her life, and she was a constant source of support and care for them. Described as friendly, thoughtful, and gentle, Floncy was a woman who made a lasting impact on everyone she met. She was a beacon of positivity and kindness, and her warm, welcoming nature was a comfort to all. Her gentle spirit and thoughtful nature will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Florence is survived by her daughter, Eva "Tina" Presswood of Franklinton, NC, and son, Edward Eugene "Timmy" Brown of Fort Dodge. She was a proud grandmother to Deandre Presswood, Tony Wilson, Brittany Wilson, Jayce Brown, Janeka Brown, Adrian Grover, Demarcus Foy, Demetrius Foy, Desmond Collins, Keionyeria Altman, Kemyra Chandler, Tremayne Lamont. She was also blessed with numerous great-grandchildren, Jonathon Thompson, Jacob Wilson, Joy Wilson, Carson Brown, Jacelyon Brwon, Erianna Sanders, Darius Foy, Shanise Foy, Demariana Foy, Olivia Collins, A'Layan Collins, J'Loni Collins, Kai Collins, Kata'lina Foy, A'Tayla Foy, Kentrell Foy, Bianca Montenegro, Marley Cooper. She is also survived by her siblings, Merdine Presswood, Claree Presswood, Robert Presswood, Eugene Presswood, and Johnny Presswood, sister-in-law Jeannie Presswood, and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Florence was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Maudine (Douglas) Presswood, her husband Hal Brown, grandsons, DeAndre Presswood, Edward Jayce Brown, and Adrian Grove, great granddaughter, Brianna Lyric, siblings, Etta McLoud, Margie Presswood, and Lonnie Presswood.
Floncy's life was a testament to her strength, resilience, and love for her family. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she left behind. Blackie will be remembered for her kindness, her love for life, and the joy she brought to those around her. Her legacy of love and care will continue to inspire and guide her family for generations to come along with favorite saying "uh huh yeah".
