Edward Newsome

Edward L. Newsome, 72, of Fort Dodge passed away Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Friday, April 24, 2026 in the chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in North Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will begin 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Edward Lamar Newsome wsa born April 17, 1953 to Mr. Joseph J. Newsome and Mrs. Blessit P. Newsome in Columbus, GA. Edward received his education at Columbus Tech College and had been a member of the Fort Dodge community since 1967. He served as a deacon at Second Baptist Church where he taught Bibe school every Wednesday and led Sunday school on Sundays. He worked at various jobs over the years.

Edward is survived by his daughters, Latrina Kretlow of Cherokee, Ja'Lyssa Crooks Newsome, Ja'Lexus Crooks, and Precious Crooks all of Des Moines, Bertice Maharas and Bertrice Crooks both of Forest City, Ebony Dorencamp of Mason City; son Edward Lamar Newsome-Crooks of Fort Dodge; sisters Mrs. Ida (Ken) Orr of Chattanooga, TN, Ms. Eloise Daimah Muhammad of Columbus, GA, Ms. Celisa Ann Newsome of Fort Dodge; brothers Eugene M. Newsome, and Jameel Hameed all of Fort Dodge; sisters-in-law Tauheedah Al-Hameed and Patricia Newsome and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Blessit (Durham) Newsome; brothers Lawrence Newsome, Phillip Newsome, Wali Al-Hameed, Hasson Hameed and M.B. Newsome; nieces Angel R. Hameed, Aseelah Humphrey, Mahasin Al-Hameed, Curtsie Newsome and Angela Hogan; nephews, Darryl Cunningham, Amin Al-Hameed and Gregory Newsome.

Edward was a member of the H.C. Meriwether and Masonic Lodge. He will be remembered for his continual love, compassionate heart and infinite wisdom.

Memorials may be left to family discretion.
