Douglas "Doug" McGough, 66, of Twin Lakes, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly on March 29, 2025, at his home in Naples, Florida.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Holy Trinity Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. A visitation will be 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Laufersweiler Funeral Home.
Born on July 30, 1958, Doug grew up in a home of faith, love, and an appreciation for hard work. He attended Holy Rosary before graduating from Fort Dodge Senior High. Doug's love of construction began during high school when he started building him and Shari's first home in Fort Dodge. The high school sweethearts were married on April 8, 1978. Doug was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and the owner of McGough Inc., the family business started by his parents. He built his life around hard work, integrity, and a deep love for his family.
Doug led by example, both in business and in life. He was steady, dependable, and always willing to help others. His drive came from a desire to provide and create meaningful time with the people he loved most.
Doug's happiest times were spent with his family at Twin Lakes, Florida or traveling together. He especially loved time outdoors and could always be found with a furry companion by his side.
Doug is survived by his wife, Shari (Peterson) McGough; daughter Jamie (Mitch) Lunn of Fort Dodge, IA; son Jeremy (Shannon) McGough of St. Louis, MO; his grandchildren Cambree and McKade Lunn and Lainey and Liam McGough, brother Dan (Julie) McGough; sister Karen (Bob) Heun.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ronnie McGough; brother Jim McGough; and sister Paulette Schuh. Also waiting for him in heaven are his loyal companions Riley, Reese, Max, and Josie.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Almost Home Humane Society of North Central Iowa or St. Edmond Catholic School.
