Donna Freund

Donna Freund, 91, of Fort Dodge, passed away, Tuesday September 8, 2026, at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday September 11, 2026, at First Covenant Church. Burial will follow in Otho Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 9:30 AM until the time of service on Friday at the church.

Donna (Berg) Freund, born October 10, 1934, in Dayton, Iowa. She graduated from Dayton High School in 1952. Donna lived a long, joyful, and love‑filled life surrounded by family, friends, and the simple pleasures that brought her happiness.

Donna married Edward Grettenberg on January 24, 1953. Together they welcomed one son, Steven Grettenberg. The couple later divorced. On June 13, 1964, Donna married Kenneth O. Freund, gaining a bonus son, Kenneth Freund, whom she cherished as her own.

Donna began working as a telephone operator while still in high school. After graduation, she joined United States Gypsum, where she dedicated 48 years of loyal service before retiring in 2000. Her strong work ethic, reliability, and warm personality made her a valued and respected part of the USG family.

Donna had a strong , quiet faith and was an active member at First Covenant Church and enjoyed socializing with her beloved "lunch bunch." She loved reading-especially her extensive collection of cookbooks-and she never missed her daily newspaper. She took great pride in her flowers and enjoyed watching the birds outside her window.

Her family was the center of her world. She cherished her grandchildren, great‑grandchildren, and great‑great grandchildren. She especially loved attending her great‑grandchildren's activities. In her later years, one of her greatest joys was spending time at the lake house, surrounded by the laughter and company of her many grandchildren and great‑grandchildren.

Donna enjoyed shopping, especially when she could go with her granddaughters. She loved going out for breakfast each day, visiting with her many friends and family members.

Donna is preceded in death by her parents, Lorimer and Violet (Bloom) Berg; her husband, Kenneth Freund; her son, Kenneth Freund; her brother, Harry Berg and her sister Alice (Berg) Ozbun.

She is survived by her son Steven Grettenberg (Darla Trenary), daughter‑in‑law Patty Freund, grandchildren Mindi (Preston) Sandstrom, Stefanie (Geoff) Barton, Darci (Kyle) Bangert, Wendi (Matt) Nau, their mother Cindy Greene, Christine (Warren) Preston, fifteen great‑grandchildren, two great‑great‑grandchildren, brother Marvin Berg and many nieces and nephews.

Donna's legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply and the memories she created with all who knew her.
