Donald L. Burton, 92, of Fort Dodge passed away on Saturday, October 11, 2025 at his home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, October 14 , 2025 in the chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow in West Ullensvang Cemetery, Thor. A visitation will begin 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Donald Lynn Burton was born on February 4, 1933 in Primghar IA to Wilton and Maude Burton. He was raised and educated in Primghar until his family moved to Whiting, IA. Donald graduated from Whiting High School in 1951. On June 1, 1952, he was united in marriage to Ruth Lewis at the Church of Christ in Whiting. From 1953 to 1955 he served in the Army during the Korean War; he was stationed at Camp Denny T. Clark in Hammelburg, Germany. Donald joked that Sergeant Shultz and Colonel Klink were not there! After returning from the service in 1955, Donald and Ruth established their home in Sheldon, IA. They made Sheldon their home for 36 years. He worked for First Federal Savings Bank in Sioux City for 29 years; retiring in 1995 as the branch manager at First Federal Savings in Sheldon. On December 9, 1959, he was immersed into Christ at the Sheldon Church of Christ. Donald was an active member of the Church of Christ. He was also a member of Sheldon Industrial Development Corporation and a board member of Midwest Christian Children's Home in Peterson, IA. After retiring, Donald and Ruth moved to Hibbing, MN until 2002 when they moved to Fort Dodge. Ruth passed away in 2007. Later he was united in marriage to Sharon Arndt at the Webster City Church of Christ.
Donald is survived by his wife, Sharon Arndt; daughters, Lynne (Lee) Peterson of Fort Dodge and Leah (Ted) Morelock of Montezuma; his son Barry Burton of Buhl, MN; 11 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; special nephew, John Frick and several other nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his first wife Ruth (Lewis) Burton; parents, Wilton and Maude (David) Burton; and sisters Betty Frick and Billie Girard.
