Diane Janette Batcheller Reed was born on Wednesday August 1, 1945 at Jefferson Hospital in Jefferson, Iowa, to her parents, Martin and Betty (Rodgers) Batcheller. Her early years sparked her love for travel as the family lived in Halfa, Estherville, Gowrie, Austin (Minnesota), and Paton. She graduated from Churdan High School in 1963. It was through mutual friends that she met her husband, Don Reed, and they were married on Jan. 18, 1964. The couple settled in Gowrie where they welcomed two sons, Jason Wayne and Justin Martin. Their house was always open and it was a gathering place for kids. Diane worked for Consolidated Cooperative, Jerry Bower Insurance, served as the Gowrie City Clerk, and was a paralegal for attorney Dean Erb. Don and Diane moved to rural Harcourt where they currently reside. Diane was a member of Gowrie United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She enjoyed bowling with her friends, going dancing, scratching a lottery ticket, and traveling. Diane loved animals, especially any stray cat who passed through. Youd find her in the stands and on the sidelines as she always supported her kids, grandkids, great-grandkids, nieces, and nephews in anything and everything they did. Diane is survived by her husband, Don of Harcourt; son, Jason (Amy) of West Virginia; grandson, Kyle (Michelle) of Fort Dodge; sister, Cheri (Don) Ferguson of Churdan; great-grandchildren, Karter, Brielle, Kaleb, and Brooklyn Diana Reed; step-grandchildren, Kyle Wince and Steven (Callie) Wince; step-great-grandchildren, Maylene Wince and Leon Wince; brothers-in-law, Joe (Claudia) Reed of Carroll, Bert (Rose) Reed of Badger; Jim (Kay) Reed of Colorado; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Justin, her parents, and brothers-in-law, Paul Reed of Arkansas, and Max (Joyce) Reed of Bancroft.
