Daurice Elaine Ulicki, age 80, of Anaheim, California, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. Daurice was born in Spokane, Washington, on August 13, 1944, the daughter of Daurice Alma Uvidale Tilden Pyles and Jewell Frank Pyles.
She graduated from Oakland High School in 1962, then went on to receive her B.A. in American Studies from California State College, Los Angeles, and her master's degree in Special Education from Northeastern Illinois University in 1976.
Daurice met John E. Ulicki, a member of the U.S. Air Force, while on staff at Forest Home Christian Conference Center in June, 1963. They were married in Sutherlin, Oregon, on November 28, 1964. In 2024, they celebrated their 60th anniversary together.
Daurice retired in 2009 after teaching early elementary students for eight years in Chicago, Illinois, and junior high school students for thirty years in Yorba Linda, California.
She loved taking pictures and collecting family memories into photobooks via scrapbooking and Shutterfly. She found great peace and joy in consistently reading her Bible and studying the word of God.
Daurice volunteered at Hope for Today, which is the Bible-teaching ministry of David Hocking, and was a board member of Grace Bible Mission, which focuses on evangelism in central Africa.
Remaining to cherish Daurice's memory are her husband, John E.; her children, John S. Ulicki, Julie Dever, and Judith Anne Bikel; her grandchildren, John D., David, Holly, Andrew, Rachel, Amy, Sarah, Wolfie, Freya, and Auggie; her great grandchildren, Gideon, Ezra, and Benaiah (due November 2025); her brothers, John Pyles of Lewisburg, OR, Ward Pyles of Nampa, ID, and Jamie Pyles of Drain, OR.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Daurice Alma Uvidale Tilden Pyles and Jewell Frank Pyles, and her sister, Marilyn Church.
Private graveside services will be held in Iowa at Fort Dodge Memorial Park, on July 25, 2025, at 10 a.m. Her son-in-law, Carl Dever, will officiate. Tentatively, a memorial event is being planned for the coming year.
