Charles (Chuck) Powell, 84, of Fort Dodge played his last hand on Monday, November 26, 2024, at Southfield Wellness Community in Webster City.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday December 2, 2024, at Laufersweiler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. There will be a visitation on Monday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.
Chuck was the oldest of 4 sons born on August 28, 1940, to Harvey and Joy Powell. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High and attended Iowa Central Community College. He married Eldean Gibbs in 1960 and from that union, had 4 children. They later divorced.
Chuck worked in the restaurant business most of his life starting with Treloars in the 1950s. Many people will remember him managing the Bankshot restaurant and lounge in Fort Dodge where he was famous for his $5 ribeyes and exciting Super Bowl parties.
His favorite pastime was attending events for his grandchildren. He never missed a ballgame. He loved teaching his children and grandchildren to play chess and enjoyed playing card games of all kinds. You could often find him in a game of pitch or poker. He was a big fan of all sports. You can bet he's watching his favorite teams and cheering them on from Heaven.
He is survived by his 4 children, Melanie Olson, Eagle Grove, Maria (Rod) Lehman, Fort Dodge, Meridee Miller, Waterloo, and Steve (Jill) Powell, Duncombe, 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 3 brothers, Kent (Colleen) Powell of Colorado, David (Shirley) Powell, Fort Dodge and Kevin (June) Powell, Fort Dodge.
