Vern W. Hout, 63, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 20th at 10:30 a.m. at Covenant Church in Pomeroy with Pastor Stephen White officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in Pomeroy. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home in Fort Dodge and also one hour prior to the funeral on Wednesday at the Covenant Church in Pomeroy. Survivors include his wife Dawn of Fort Dodge; children, Justin Hout of Fort Dodge; Jenny (Jeff) Bishop of Solon; Jamie (Jacque) Johll of Fort Dodge; Edward (Angie) Johll of Barnum; Kristen (Kelly Jessen) Johll of Manson; Kathryn (Joanquin) Mullins of Bloomington, IN; sister, Beverly (Richard) Klocko of Pomeroy; 17 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Vern Sr. and Erma (Howard) Hout, first wife Claudette (Benedict) Hout, and his brother, Merle Hout. Vern William Hout was born on May 4, 1952 in Fort Dodge. He grew up in Knoke and graduated from Pomeroy High School. In October of 1971, he was united in marriage to Claudette Benedict. She passed away in 1984. Vern was a lifelong farmer and a photographer at Mayer Portraits for several years becoming the owner in 1980. In 1984, Vern opened 59 Minute Photo in the Crossroads Mall. On September 21, 1996 he was united in marriage to Dawn Carol Dawson and the couple established their home in Fort Dodge. Together they owned multiple rental properties and also had a successful antiquing business. His loves were his family, his grandchildren, and his Cub Cadet lawn mowers. He also enjoyed spending time with his many friends, making people laugh, and truly loved being a photographer. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
