Patrick J. O'Brien, 68, of Fort Dodge passed away Thursday, March 30, 2017 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and then a Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery. A visitation will be 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Patrick is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Robert (Christine) of Fort Dodge; Kelly (Tony) Summers of Antioch, IL; Kalleen (Geoff) Engels of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Megan O'Brien; Julia O'Brien; Nicholas O'Brien; Ty Summers; Austin Summers; Madison Engels; Sydney Engels; brother, John (Alice) O'Brien; sister, JoAnn Yeager; brother-in-law, Ed Bjornson all of California; sister-in-law, Phyllis O'Brien of Fort Dodge; mother-in-law, Eileen Fleming of Fort Dodge; numerous brother and sister-in-law's, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends especially, Tom and Diane Stockwell. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Josephine (Coady) O'Brien; brothers, Jim; Jerry; sister, Connie Bjornson; brother-in-law, Carroll Yeager; father-in-law, Joseph Fleming. Patrick Joseph O'Brien was born March 22, 1949 in Fort Dodge. He attended catholic schools in Fort Dodge and graduated from St. Edmond High School in 1967. He then attended Iowa Central Community College before beginning his career in carpentry. On May 18, 1968, Pat was united in marriage to Barbara Fleming at Sacred Heart Church. Pat worked construction in the Fort Dodge area and he began O'Brien Builders in the early '80s. He later partnered with his son, Bob. Pat's number one priority in life was his faith and his family. He and Barb spent countless hours watching their children and now their grandchildren playing sports, participating in musicals and all other activities. He was also very involved in the Parish Spaghetti Dinners and a proud member of the Unity Singers Men's Choir. Pat will always be remembered for his optimistic attitude of "Super Great and Getting Better!" Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
