She was preceded in death by her father, Larry Burdick and father-in-law, Ted Salter. Michelle Ann Burdick was born February 14, 1963 in Humboldt. Shelly grew up in Pocahontas and graduated from Pocahontas High School in 1981. She then attended Creighton University graduating in 1985 earning a bachelor's degree in elementary education along with a minor in theology. On June 15, 1985, Michelle was united in marriage to Tim Salter at the Resurrection of Our Lord Church in Pocahontas. The couple made their home in Fort Dodge and this June will be celebrating their 32nd wedding anniversary. Shelly first worked as the director for Webster County Day Care before starting a lifelong and inspired teaching career initially at Sacred Heart Middle School and eventually working for Saint Edmond Catholic Schools for over 20 years. Shelly was creative and compassionate educator with a firm belief in Saint Edmond's mission statement and Catholic values. She was also a strong supporter of the "Respect for Life" foundation. On "jeans day" students could find her sporting her Iowa Hawkeye and Minnesota Viking gear, the teams she cheered for besides the Gaels. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, aunt, friend and educator. She was extremely proud of her loving daughter, Ashley. All who knew Shelly will remember her beautiful smile, calm demeanor, gracious and caring spirit, witty sense of humor. She will forever be remembered as a beautiful person inside and out.
