Marnette E. Cross

Marnette E. Cross, 82, of Fort Dodge died Sunday, December 6, 2020 at the Simpson Health Center, Friendship Haven. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2020 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at Lidderdale Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family. Marnette Eloise Cross was born April 27, 1938 at St. Anthony's hospital, Carroll, IA. She was the 13th child of Rev. Rudolf and Louise (Paul) Herrmann. Ten of the Herrmann children reached adulthood. She was educated at Lidderdale Lutheran School, Lidderdale, IA and ultimately earned her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Chicago, Chicago, IL, School of Family Service Administration in June of 1963. In September 1963, she married John W. Cross of Fort Dodge, IA where the couple resided for 57 years. She was employed at Lutheran Family Services before leaving to raise her family. Most recently, she was employed at Arrowhead Area Education Agency as a school Social Worker and retired after a number of years. Marnette married John on September 1, 1963. There were three sons born to this union. They are Paul W. Cross, Peoria, IL, James (Jamie) (Kris) H. Cross, West Des Moines, IA, and David (Christine) J. Cross of Scottsdale, AZ. Her husband died March 5, 2015. She is survived by her three sons and seven grandchildren, James and Will, Liv, Sam, and Charlie and Linnea and Jackson. Memorials may be left to the discretion of family.
