John Eldon Pogge

May 11, 1932 — April 24, 2014

John E. Pogge, 81, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Thursday, April 24, 2014, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. on Monday, April 28th at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, with Rev. Lyle Hansen officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the V.F.W Post 1856 and the U.S. Army Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home. Survivors include his wife, Loraine of Fort Dodge; son, John (Darcelle) Pogge of Bloomington, IL; daughter, Janis (Dave) Waller of Clare; grandsons, Justin and Nathan Waller, Ethan, Evan, Owen Pogge, one great-grandson; Brycen Waller; sister, Linda (Fred) Metzger of Marquette, MI; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Marcene Mueller; and brothers, Henry, Kenneth and Chris Pogge. John Eldon Pogge was born on May 11, 1932 in Renwick to John and Lena (Kamp) Pogge. He attended schools there and graduated from Renwick Public High School in 1951, where he was an accomplished football player. John served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 and was stationed in Korea. He was a salesman for Farm Bureau Insurance, John Deere, and Prinsco, Inc. John was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where he served on the Board of Elders, Christian Management, and Christian Outreach. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post 1856 and American Legion. John enjoyed driving horses, woodworking in his shop, and he especially loved spending time with his family and friends. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
