Esther Tuvell

Esther V. (Barkema) Tuvell, 97, of Fort Dodge died August 25, 2021 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 31, 2021 at Corpus Christi Cemetery. Laufersweiler Funeral Home is serving the family. Esther is survived by her son, Richard (Janet) Tuvell of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Michael (Tiffany) Tuvell, Ryan Tuvell, and Jeremy (Cortney) Mortensen; great-grandchildren, Boston and Emerson Tuvell, Jacob, Carleigh, and Abigail Mortensen, and Jack and Owen Mills. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Emma (Abrahamson) Barkema; husband, Walter "Bud" Tuvell, twin sister, Ruth Rongved; sister, Norma Dinsdale; and brother, Emmett (George) Barkema. Esther Violet Barkema was born March 1, 1924 with her twin sister Ruth in Jewell. She graduated from Jewell High School in 1941. In 1942, she was united in marriage to Walter "Bud" Tuvell in Norfolk, VA. The couple made their home in Fort Dodge. As a special gift for her birthday on March 1, 1947 her son Richard was born. Esther worked in the office of Fantels as a book keeper for 40 years. She also worked at Brooks Clothing and Pass the Buck. In her spare time, she sold raffle tickets for the Humane Society to fund the new Almost Home building. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Almost Home Animal Shelter in Esther's honor.
