Edward "Eddie" G. Grettenberg

March 18, 1934 — August 21, 2016

Edward "Eddie" George Grettenberg, 82 went home to be with Jesus on Sunday evening August 21, 2016. His firm belief in God, devotion to his family, and wonderful sense of humor are qualities for which he'll be most remembered. Eddie was born to Ed and Dorothy (Smouse) Grettenberg on March 18, 1934 in Estherville, Iowa. The Lord has blessed and watched over Eddie throughout his life. As a toddler, the Lord miraculously kept him safe when a tornado picked him up and carried him miles away, yet he only suffered a broken arm. In his senior year of high school he moved to the current Grettenberg family farm near Dayton, where he farmed his entire life, first with his father then with his son, Steve. In addition to farming, Eddie worked at Land O'Lakes for thirty one years. Eddie served his country in the Navy Reserves. He enjoyed wintering in Hobe Sound, Florida where he became deeply involved in helping Hobe Sound Bible College and its ministries all over the world. He did this quietly without desire for recognition and did so as unto the Lord. Eddie spent time daily reading the Word of God. It was his heart's desire that all would come into relationship with Jesus, accepting Christ as their Lord and Savior. Eddie was absolutely devoted to his family and was a man of strong faith, believing in the power and strength of Jesus Christ's love and the beauty and peace that would await him after his passing. He is survived by his son Steve Grettenberg and his companion, Darla Trenary; Steve's Mother Donna Freund, daughter-in-law Cindy (Duane) Greene; grandchildren, Mindi (Preston) Sandstrom, Stefanie (Geoff) Barton, Darci (Kyle) Bangert, Wendi (Matt) Nau, 7 great grandchildren, niece Phyllis Dozier and nephew Earl (Alison) Dozier. He is preceded in death by his parents Ed and Dorothy Grettenberg, his brother Billy Grettenberg, and his sister Joyce Dozier. A Celebration of Life will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 27, 2016 at First Covenant Church, 201 Avenue H, with Rev. Brady Duren officiating. A visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at the church. Burial will be in Union Township Cemetery in Coon Rapids at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Visitation Sat, Aug 27, 2016 at 9:30 am - 10:30 am First Covenant Church Service Sat, Aug 27, 2016 at 10:30 am First Covenant Church
