Rockwell City Alan C. Berg 80, passed away peacefully Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home, Fort Dodge. Private Family Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, July, 6, 2020 at St. Pauls Lutheran & Presbyterian Church, Rockwell City, with Pastor Kelley Pedersen and Pastor Jim Davis officiating. Burial of casket will be at Rosehill Cemetery. A Public Visitation will be 12:00 Noon to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, July 5 at the Palmer & Swank Funeral Home, Rockwell City, with the family present from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family. Alan is survived by his wife Shirley of 59 years; daughter Jaci (Matt) Carlson of Lake City; sons, Brad (Tina) Berg of West Des Moines, Bart (Christen) Berg of Norwalk, and Bryce (Beth) Berg of West Des Moines; grandchildren, Michaela (Dalten) Davis, Mason Berg, Colin Carlson, Kelsi Carlson, Brett Berg, and Brock Berg; step-granddaughters, Ellie, Leah, and Brianna; step-great-grandchildren, Beau and Becky; sister, Alice "Billie" (Tony) Hardyk of Sioux City; and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl Richard and Hulda (Johnson) Berg; sisters, Mildred Schoepke, Irene Johnson, Laura Sidmore, Gladys OTool, Evelyn Larson, and Pauline Martin; and brothers, Carl Berg, Elmer Berg, Mervin Berg, and Richard Berg Jr. Alan Clarence Berg was born December 3, 1939 at Rockwell City to Richard and Hulda (Johnson) Berg, and he was the youngest of 12 children. Alan graduated from Rockwell City High School, with the Class of 1957. He attended Buena Vista University and worked part time for Whitver & Lane Clothing in Rockwell City. On June 4, 1961 he was united in marriage to Shirley Peterson. Alan was employed for the National Bank of Rockwell City and was in banking for 31 years in Rockwell City and 10 and a half years in Lake City until his retirement. Alan and Shirley also owned and operated Berg Clerking Service for auctions for many years. Alan had served on the Stewart Memorial Hospital Board, Twin Lakes Golf Board, Rockwell City Council, and St. Pauls Lutheran Church Council. He also was an active member of the Rockwell City Chamber, Rotary Club, Calhoun Co. Bankers Association, and the Calhoun Co. March of Dimes. Alan coached Little League softball and baseball and loved watching his children and grandchildrens sporting events. He was an avid sports fan, played golf and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards. Alan and Shirley enjoyed wintering in Lake Havasu, Arizona for 17 years.
