 | | Birth Date: June 20, 1929 | | Death Date: February 27, 2010 | | Kathryn Newkirk - 80, of Fort Dodge, died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at her home. | | Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 2nd in the Chapel of Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home and 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church with Msgr. Kevin McCoy officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial. | | Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery. | | Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where there will be a Legion of Mary Rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a vigil at 6:00 p.m. | Surviving is her husband, John Sr.; sons, John Jr. of Fort Dodge, Joseph and his wife Jennifer of Fort Dodge; daughter, Margaret Wirth and her husband Michael of Fort Dodge; 6 grandchildren, Mary, Melissa and Michael Wirth, Nicholas, Carson and Isaiah Newkirk; 2 great-granddaughters; sisters, Charlotte and Anne. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Margaret (Hahn) Grell; brothers, Paul, Pat, Ray; and a sister, Margaret.
Kathryn I. Grell was born June 20, 1929 in Duncombe, Iowa and attended country school in Duncombe at later Sacred Heart School.
On June 27, 1950 she was united in marriage to John Newkirk at Holy Rosary Church and they established their home in Fort Dodge. Besides being a homemaker raising her family, Kathryn worked at Tobin Pack and Marso Rodenborn Glove Factory.
Kathryn was a member of Holy Trinity Parish where she taught CCD classes, was a member of the ladies union, the altar society, and the Sacred Heart prayer line.
