(Schroeder) Daws - 79, of Fort Dodge, died Saturday, February 20, 2010 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home with her niece, Sherri Gehrt, and her husband Jim, at her side.
Charleen is survived by 5 nieces; 3 nephews, 10 great nephews; 7 great nieces; 9 great-great nieces; 2 great-great nephews; half brothers,Bryan and Raymond Shroeder; sister-in laws, Wilma Schroeder and Betty Schroeder. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Bernice (Black) Schroeder; her husband, William; and two brothers, Warren and Wendell “Ike” Schroeder.
Charleen A. Schroeder was born May 24, 1930 in Barnum, Iowa. She attended school in Fort Dodge, graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1949. She then attended one year of Junior College. For 25 years, Charleen was employed at Osco Drug where she did cosmetology and bookkeeping. She then worked for 15 years at KVFD Radio in radio sales and hosted two radio shows featuring the auction line and a guest cooking show. From 1989 to 1992 she was director of sales and reservations at the Starlite Village until her retirement in 1992.
Charleen was a 50+ member of First Presbyterian Church, she served on Congregational Life, was active in Thursday morning Fellowship, was the chairman of Heritage Sundays for two years, was an usher and caregiver at the church visiting members and reciting prayers in their homes. She also was a member of American Business Women from September 1967 to September 2006 and had 35 years of perfect attendance. In 1972 she was recognized as “Woman of the Year” and served as an officer in all positions several times throughout her membership.
She enjoyed playing cards and was a member of the Trinity Auxiliary 500 card club. Her hobbies included oil painting, rose malling, cooking and candy making.
